Second Grade News

October 7-October 11

Here is a peek at what we will be working on.

Reading:   These are our new reading vocabulary words for this week.  They are the words that we will be learning to read.  A good way to help your child practice is to put this letter in a handy spot where you will see it as a reminder, and then have your child practice reading through the words a couple of times each day.
         house                never                off
         took                  guess                 pile
         messy               lawn                  rake
         backpack         whispered        repair

Our reading comprehension skill is drawing conclusions.  We draw conclusions when we use what we know about real life and what the author tells us in order to figure out more about the characters and more about what is happening in the story.
Spelling:   Your child’s list of spelling words is attached to this letter.

Dismissal Procedure:  Mrs. VanderVlucht is asking that all parents who come into the building to pick up their children at the end of the school day wait by the elementary office rather than by the classroom doors.  Your child will be sent to the office to meet you there.  This will prevent confusion in the hallway, and it will help us keep track of all children during hallway travel to the buses.  Thanks for your cooperation as we begin this new procedure.

Book It Reading Program and Home Links:  Wow!  The boys and girls are off to a great start with their nightly reading calendars and home links.  This is possible because of the support they are receiving from you at home.  Thanks so much for supporting and encouraging your child as he/she practices reading and math at home.  Your help makes a huge difference.

Library:  We return to the library on Monday.  Please make sure all books are returned so that more may be checked out.

 Have a great weekend!
Mrs. Wimmler
