Second Grade News

Reading:   Our new comprehension skill is drawing conclusions.  We will learn that sometimes when you read a story, you can use what you know about real life and what the author tells you to figure out more about the characters and what is happening.

These are our new vocabulary words:
          house                   never                   off                        these

          birdhouses          repair                   completing         guess

          took                     backpack             whispered           messy

          lawn                    rake                     pile                      single

          pleased                surprised             tomorrow

Please put this letter in a handy spot and have your child practice reading these words a couple of times each day.

Spelling:  A list of this week’s words is attached to this letter.

Bookbags:  The Pizza Hut Reading Program begins today.  Your child has a bookbag with a book and a calendar for reading at home.  Please be sure to initial each day your child reads and have your child return the bookbag to school every day.

Reminders:  Our field trip to Klackle Orchards is Wednesday, October 10.  Please return your child’s permission slip and money as soon as possible.
Family Night Fiesta is Thursday, October 23.  Please RSVP by October 17.  Hope to see you there.

Second Grade News
September 17-21
This is a peek at what we will be working in this week:
Reading:  These are our reading vocabulary words for the week.  We will learn to read them and learn what they mean.
          clean                   many                  use            work

          world                 sign                     ready        phone

          compute         everything          farm           pound

          fix                        easier                 tools         write

A good way to help your child practice is to put this list in a handy spot and have your child practice reading through the words a couple of times each day.
Our comprehension skill is author’s purpose.  We will learn that authors have a reason to write what they do.  Sometimes authors write books to teach us facts about real things.  Sometimes they write to tell a good story, and sometimes they write to convince us that something is important.
Spelling:  Your child’s spelling list is stapled to this letter.  We practice these words every day in school.  Please take a couple of minutes each night to help your child practice at home, too.  We will have a spelling test on Friday.
Reminder:   Please sent a note if there is a change in your child’s bus travel or parent pick up plans at the end of the day.   Thanks so much!
Have a great week!

Reminder:  If you send lunch money to school with your child, it must be in an envelope labeled with your child’s name and grade.  All money is sent to the office, and loose coins and bills can get lost or mixed in with someone else’s money.  So, for the safety of your child’s money, please make sure it is in an envelope.
