Second Grade News

September 30-October 4

Here is a peek at what we will be working on.

Reading:   These are our new reading vocabulary words for this week.  They are the words that we will be learning to read.  A good way to help your child practice is to put this letter in a handy spot where you will see it as a reminder, and then have your child practice reading through the words a couple of times each day.

Our reading comprehension skill is setting.  The setting is the time and place of a story.  Settings can be real or imaginary.  As we read we will discuss the setting of the stories.  When you read at home with your child please take a few minutes to discuss the setting of the book you are enjoying.

Spelling:   Your child’s list of spelling words is attached to this letter.

Dismissal Procedure:  Mrs. VanderVlucht is asking that all parents who come into the building to pick up their children at the end of the school day wait by the elementary office rather than by the classroom doors.  Your child will be sent to the office to meet you there.  This will prevent confusion in the hallway, and it will help us keep track of all children during hallway travel to the buses.  Thanks for your cooperation as we begin this new procedure.

Book It Reading Program:  Next week we will begin the Book-It Reading Program.  Beginning Monday, your child will bring home a reading book and reading calendar for you to sign.

Math Home Links:  This also begins next week.  Please look for these papers in your child’s take home folder.

 Have a great weekend!
