Second Grade News

        April 29-May 3

Reading:  These are our new vocabulary words for this week:

            above              few                  kept                number                       sound

            scissors            piece               relief               photograph                lemonade

            graph              ice                   glum                track                           squawked

Please put this list in a handy spot and have your child read through it a couple of times each day.  This week our comprehension skill is finding the main idea and details of a selection.  As we read we ask ourselves, “What is the book about?”  This helps us determine the main idea.  Then we think about the details, or smaller pieces of information, that tell about the main idea.  As you read with your child, please take a few minutes to discuss the main idea of a story.

Fun To Be Fit Day:  This will be on Friday, May 24 at 1:00. 

Library:  We return to the library on Monday.  Please make sure all books are returned so that more may be checked out.

Track and Field Day:  This will be on Wednesday, June 5.  Please let Mrs. Kelley know if you can help with this.

Book Orders:  These are due by May 7.

Yo-Yo Purchases:  Below is an order form if your child would like to purchase one.  They will be on sale through Tuesday, April 23.  Have a great weekend!

Third Grade Bookstore:  On Tuesday, April 16 the third grade classes will be selling gently used books.  The cost of the books ranges from 25 cents to $1.00.  We will be visiting the book sale.  This is a great way to get inexpensive books for your child to read.
