Here is a peek at what we will be working on:
Reading: These are our new vocabulary words. Please put this list in a handy spot and have
your child practice reading through the words a couple of times each day.

Our comprehension skill is character. We will learn that authors have many ways to
tell what their story characters are like.
Authors write about what the characters think, say, feel, and do. Authors may also describe how the character
looks. As you read with your child at
home, please take a few minutes to discuss what the author is telling you about
the characters in the story.
Spelling: Your child’s new spelling list is attached
to this letter.
Valentine’s Day: We will be having our class Valentine Party
at 1:00 in the afternoon on Thursday, February 13. For our party, I would like each child to
bring in a Valentine for every member of our classroom. The Valentines may be purchased or
homemade. I would like your child to
address and sign all the Valentines by himself/herself (with your supervision). This can be a big job, so you might want your
child to start early and do a few each night.

Jump Rope For
Heart: This will be in the
morning of Thursday, February 13. Mrs.
Kelley would like the boys and girls to wear something that is
heart-themed. This could be last year’s
shirt, a shirt that you decorate with hearts, some red or pink on your
clothing, etc.
