Second Grade News
March 19-23
Here is a peek at what we will be working on this week.
Reading: Our new vocabulary words for this week are:
behind only sure upon
mill humble machines word
sashes scrambled
Please put this list in a handy spot and have your child practice reading through the words a couple of times each day.
This week we will be reading historical fiction selections. Our comprehension skill is that of character. We will be learning that writers have ways to show what their characters are like through what the character says, does, and thinks. We call these character traits. As you read with your child, please take a few minutes to discuss the characters in the story.
Spelling: Your child’s new list is attached to this letter.
Math: We continue to practice subtraction with borrowing. We are also learning how to gather information to make a bar graph.
Fun To Be Fit Day: This will be on June 1. If you are interested in ordering a t-shirt for your child, the cost is $6 which includes the cost of a finisher’s medal ($1). If you prefer not to order a t-shirt, just have your child wear last year’s shirt or any other yellow t-shirt. I would encourage you to consider purchasing a finisher’s medal for your child. The cost of the medal is $1, and we would like to see everyone get a medal for all of their hard work. Please send the $1 medal money in by Monday, March 19.
March is Reading Month: This year our reading theme is “Oceans of Fun.” We have some special days planned in March.
March 23- Flip Flops/Sandals Day and Deadline for Bookmark Contest.
March 30- Beach Day. Wear the attire from all of the previous Fridays .
Have a great week!
