Second Grade News
February 20-24
Here is a peek at what we will be working on this week.
Reading: Our new vocabulary words for this week are:
able early own story
thought cousin wedding grazing
growl gobbled feathers dismay
kernel brook banquet
Please put this list in a handy spot and have your child practice reading through it a couple of times each day.
This week our comprehension skill is plot. We will learn that the plot of a story is what happens from beginning to end in a story. Remembering the important story events and the order in which they happen can help us keep track of the plot of a story. As you read at home with your child please take a few minutes to discuss what happens at the beginning, middle, and end of each story.
Spelling: Your child’s new list is attached to this letter.
Math: Thanks for helping your child with his/her math links. I am noticing substantial gains in the students who do these homework papers on a nightly basis. Next week we will be working on subtraction. This would be a great time to get out some subtraction flashcards and help your child review at home.
Social Studies: We are learning about George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. Please ask your child to tell you a few important facts about each.
Progress Reports: These will be sent home next Friday.
Have a great week!
