October 7th News

                                                                                                                                    October 7, 2011

Parents,

I would like to thank everyone who attended the Title reading and math night.  Your support makes a huge difference in your child’s education.

Here is a peek at what we will be working on this week:

Reading:   Our new comprehension skill is drawing conclusions.  We will learn that sometimes when you read a story, you can use what you know about real life and what the author tells you to figure out more about the characters and what is happening.

 Our reading vocabulary words are:

            house                         off                   these              took                birdhouses

            repair                          whisper          backpack        guess              tomorrow

            messy                         lawn                rake                pile                  single

            pleased                      surprised        never              completing

Please put this list in a handy spot and have your child practice reading the words a couple of times each day.

Math:  We will be working on addition facts to 20.  There will be more Home Links math pages coming home this week.  Please look for them in your child’s folder.  Be sure to look over your child’s work and have your child make any needed corrections.  Also, please initial the Home Links so I know your child has shown the paper to you.  Remind your child to return the paper the next day.

Spelling:   The new list is attached to this letter.

Bookbags:  Thanks for listening to your child read aloud for a few minutes every evening.  The boys and girls are doing a good job of remembering to return their bookbags to school every day.

Field Trip to Klackle Orchard:   We will be going to Klackle Orchard on Thursday, October 20. Please send in the permission slip and money by Monday, October 17.

Delayed Start:   School begins at 10:00 on Monday.

Progress Reports:  Your child’s first progress report is being sent home today. Please look for it in your child’s folder. Have a great weekend!
